Mini Beach Vacation

I got this little souvenir in January when I went to Hawaii.  A mini beach scene - black sand beach.  Not quite the same thing as hearing the ocean and feeling the sand between my toes, but it's a good memory of warmer days.  And isn't that what souvenirs are for-to remember were you where when you got the trinket?  They are a tangible photo, sort of speak.  Over the years I have collected this and that, items to remember moments in time.  The novelty of souvenirs is becoming less appealing to me as the years go by.  When I was very young, I collected the 12-inch pencils that were about an inch thick with pictures of a state's bird, flower, capital city and some landmark the state was famous for.  I remember I had a pink one from Minden, Nebraska when we visited Pioneer Village, and a yellow one from Mount Rushmore.  One of my friends had a grandmother that collected spoons for her.  She also had a spoon holder case to display them.  Another friend collected cups and saucers.  My mom collected plates.  If what you collect tells something about you - I wonder what pencils would say about me?  Or kaleidoscopes?  I have several of those.  For now, I'll stick with my mini beach - tells me I'm wanting warmer weather.

I'm a Little Teapot, Short and Stout

I'm a little teapot, short and stout.  Here is my handle, and here is my spout.

Almost every time I see a teapot, I think of that song - my mom used to sing it to me.  Along with other songs you rarely hear, like "I love you, a bushel and a peck, a bushel and a peck and a hug around your neck."  Of course if you sang that to a child now, they would be asking what a peck was....

Simple Pleasures

Cuddles likes jerky.  It makes her extremely happy.  Long walks, scratching behind her ears, petting her head and giving her a tummy rub also makes her extremely happy.  Talking to her makes her tail wag frantically, picking up her squeaky toy and throwing it so she can run and bring it back to you delights her to no end.  And I mean no end - she could play the toss and retrieve game for hours!   It doesn't take much for her to think you're the next best thing since sliced bread...or jerky.  I think that's why I love dogs so much.  They just give back that unconditional love, they listen to you and actually look you in the eye when you talk to them directly.  They follow you around, afraid to miss one moment of your companionship.  You can look like death warmed over, and it doesn't matter to them.  They don't care you have morning breath or you're sweaty from a workout.  They don't care who you know, where you live, or what kind of car you drive.  They still look at you as though you're a king or queen.  And that's why I think Cuddles is pretty special, too.  If only humans could learn to love unconditionally as a dog does, and enjoy the simple pleasures of life, we'd all be a lot happier.  And the Jerky makers of the world would be a lot richer, too.

Japanese Soup - With Picture Instructions!

My sister-in-law's sister-in-law is Japanese.  She sent me some soup in these cute little packages.  She wrote out the instructions - heat 1/2 cup water and pour over "cake" - which dissolves and inside is flavoring, a couple of different kinds of mushrooms, onions and other unknown veggies.  It was really good!  I'd get them for my lunches if I could find them in Kansas.  :)

Work In Progress

This was a project I intended to finish for 2013 Christmas.  Hopefully 2014 will find it finished.  I'll probably be making my progress on this stocking as my picture of the day for a while.   During the winter days of hardly any sunshine when I'm not at work; and long days at work makes Kodak moments few and far between!

I Scream, You Scream, We All Scream for Ice Cream!

Everett goes for the sundae with a little help from dad.

Emmett goes for the milkshake with Nanna!  He takes his milkshakes very seriously.

Got it done!

Not being able to sleep has it's advantages!  I remembered my picture of the day. Hopefully I'll be asleep before the wee hours of tomorrow come.

iPad Time

I used to play "Operation" with tweezers and a red nose that would light up when you touched the sides of the hole where the plastic bone or rubber band was.  She plays with deep sea fish in a colorful ocean.  Being a kid is way cooler now days!

Oh No, More Snow

When will Spring get here?  I am really tired of shoveling.  And shoveling.  Then shoveling some more.

Expectations

I have been looking for these ever since I saw Lester Holt on the Today Show try the new Oreo Cookie Dough and Rice Krispy Treat Oreo's.  Limited additions.   All I can say is it won't break my heart when they're not on the shelves anymore.  They are okay, but they don't make my socks go up and down.

Sochi 2014 Olympics

Olympic Ceremony was tonight.  Although, the competitions have already begun.  I saw on the news some of the hotels were not ready for all the guests.  Some don't have clean water to drink or even to bathe!  Some hotels do not have furniture!  One newscaster said he'd trade 3 light bulbs for one door knob.  Kind of makes me appreciate watching from the comfort of home!!!
